European standards

European standards (EN) are an important tool that supports businesses in their operations on the Single Market of the European Union. Their application facilitates faster marketing of products and services, reduces costs, increases competitiveness and supports access to international markets.

The role of the Croatian Standards Institute (HZN)

European standards are adopted by national standardization bodies of EU Member States, ensuring their implementation at the national level. In Croatia, this role is performed by the Croatian Standards Institute (HZN). HZN adopts European and international standards as Croatian standards (HRN) and enables interested Croatian experts to actively contribute to standardization through membership in HZN. HZN members gain early access to information about the development of standards, directly influence their drafting and participate on equal terms in standards development processes at the European and international levels.

Access to information and standards

In addition to active participation in standards development processes, HZN ensures access to standards through their sale and free access to standards in the HZN Standards Library. As the information and documentation centre of HZN, the Standards Library provides free expert advice on standards to all interested users. For fast access to information on Croatian standards, users can utilize the on-line catalogue of Croatian standards and the HZNe-Glasilo (e-Bulletin), which contains news and data on the results of Croatian, international and European standardization. A special focus is placed on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, which are provided with direct and tailored support through the SME Contact Point.
